In our current economy, times are hard. Individuals and companies alike have been on tighter budgets. This has led to layoffs, in many cases, which has put further financial stress on individuals and families.
Recently, in Illinois, a staffing agency had to lay off approximately 500 people because of the increased costs of operating under the state's recently updated Worker's Compensation laws. This is, of course, sad for those who were laid off right before the holiday season. Most were expected to be able to secure employment from a different company.
Worker's Compensation is something that most people and companies hope to never have to deal with, but it affects us all, in ways we may not realize. As the federal government seeks to reform their current worker's comp laws, this may be an issue to keep an eye on.
